Football Association Of Zambia Breaks Silence on Nora Häuptle
The Football Association of Zambia has issued an official update regarding the absence of Nora Häuptle from the ongoing FIFA Series in Brazil, confirming that the head coach will not be part of the assignment due to administrative issues linked to contract negotiations.
According to FAZ Acting Deputy General Secretary Iva Lengwe, Häuptle’s absence stems from ongoing discussions over proposed amendments to her current contract, which have delayed her travel.
“We regret to announce that Häuptle will not lead the Copper Queens in Brazil as a result of ongoing re-negotiation for amendments to her current contract,” Lengwe stated.
He added that despite FAZ arranging all travel logistics, the coach could not make the trip as she seeks to finalize improved contractual terms. Häuptle is expected to travel to Lusaka in the coming days to resolve the outstanding issues.
In her absence, assistant coach Charles Haalubono will take charge of the Zambia Women’s National Football Team for the Brazil assignment, with full backing from the association.
Lengwe also confirmed that initial travel disruptions caused by visa delays have been resolved, with all selected players now in Brazil. Injuries had earlier forced adjustments to the squad, prompting FAZ to facilitate visas for replacement players.
Zambia opens its FIFA Series campaign against Canada, before facing Brazil and concluding the tournament against South Korea on April 18. The tournament is being used as part of preparations for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The situation surrounding Häuptle introduces administrative uncertainty, but FAZ maintains that efforts are underway to reach a professional resolution while the team focuses on competitive duties in Brazil.
