Eden University Becomes Official Sponsor of ZWSL with K3 Million Partnership
In a major milestone for women’s football in Zambia, Eden University has signed a three-year, K3 million sponsorship deal with the Zambia Premier League (ZPL) to support the Zambian Women’s Super League (ZWSL). This partnership, signed in Lusaka at Protea Tower, aims to boost competition, enhance player development, and promote opportunities for women in sports. The signing ceremony included notable attendees such as Acting Minister of Youth, Sport, and Art, Hon. Makuzo Chikote MP, and FAZ President Andrew Kamanga.
Hon. Makuzo praised Eden University’s initiative, encouraging other businesses to support women’s football, while Kamanga expressed relief at finally securing a sponsor, marking a significant step forward in elevating the ZWSL’s profile.
“Partnership Brings Tremendous Value” – ZPL
The collaboration between the ZPL and Eden University represents a step forward in the promotion of women’s football, with the sponsorship expected to have a significant impact on the league’s future, as it has not had a sponsor since its inception.
“With this partnership between ZPL and Eden University, we now have an even greater opportunity to build on these successes [by women’s teams] and elevate the women’s Super League to the next level. This partnership brings tremendous value, not only to the league but to the players, coaches, and fans who are so passionate about women’s football,” said ZPL Chairman Mr. Kephas Katongo.
Dr. Alvert Ng’andu, Vice-Chancellor of Eden University, also spoke about the university’s dedication to supporting sports initiatives, particularly those aimed at empowering women.
“Eden University Women’s League sponsorship agreement, which will span from 2024 to 2027, represents more than just a partnership. It is a shared commitment to the development and empowerment of young people and to creating pathways for success through education and sports.”
