David Hamansenya Joins Spanish Segunda Division Side Leganes

Zambia Under-20 Men’s National Team defender David Hamansenya has completed a move to Spanish second-division outfit Leganes, marking another major step in the 18-year-old’s developing career.

The Shamuel Soccer Academy graduate was part of the Zambia Under-20 Men’s National Team squad at the Egypt 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and has risen through the national junior ranks, representing Zambia at Under-15, Under-17 and Under-20 level.

Hamansenya has now taken his next step in European football after Leganes confirmed that the defender has signed a professional contract after coming of age. The move represents an important milestone for the young defender, who has been developing through the Zambian academy system before earning his opportunity in Spain.

“I am very happy and this is a dream come true for me. I have waited for this moment and I am really excited to finally sign my professional contract,” Hamansenya said.

The defender also expressed his gratitude to those who have supported his journey, particularly Shamuel Soccer Academy owner Evans Kangwa and his agent Nir Karin, while also thanking the wider Shamuel family for their role in his development.

“I want to thank Evans Kangwa, owner of Shamuel Academy, and my agent Nir Karin, who have both helped and guided me through this journey and I will forever be grateful to them. And the entire Shamuel family, thank you for everything. You’re forever in my heart,” Hamansenya said.

Hamansenya had also received an early opportunity to be involved with the senior Zambia national team setup when then Chipolopolo coach Wedson Nyirenda handed him a call-up during the preparations for the CHAN tournament. However, the tournament was subsequently postponed before the teenager could make his international debut.

His move to Leganes now gives the young defender an opportunity to continue his development in Spain and compete for a place within the club’s system. Having progressed through Zambia’s national youth teams and represented the country at the U20 AFCON, Hamansenya will be hoping his latest European adventure becomes another important chapter in his football journey.
