Copper Queens head coach Nora Häuptle has declared her squad ready for Zambia’s opening match of the 2026 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) against Egypt, insisting the team is fully prepared for the Group C encounter.
Speaking during the pre-match press conference at Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat, Morocco, Häuptle confirmed that all 25 players in the squad are fit and available for selection ahead of Tuesday’s clash.
All Players Available
The Swiss tactician expressed confidence in her squad’s readiness while acknowledging the challenge posed by Egypt.
“We know that we will play our starting game against Egypt, the football nation. We don’t underrate them of course but the focus is very much on us. We have experience on how to build the energy towards the starting game and we are cool,” Häuptle said.
She revealed that the technical bench had thoroughly analysed the opposition while ensuring the team remained focused on its own strengths.
“I would say all 25 players in the squad are fit, ready and also can’t wait to start. We also examined our opposition very well.”
Performance Comes First
Häuptle explained that Zambia has spent the past few weeks refining its tactical approach, with emphasis on creating space, maintaining possession and adapting during matches.
Despite the expectations surrounding the Copper Queens, the coach stressed that delivering a quality performance remains the team’s primary objective.
“It’s about performance. We are not focused on the results. We always believe that when our performance is well the results will always follow.”
Barbra Banda Calls for Strong Start
Copper Queens captain Barbra Banda believes the players are ready to repay the confidence shown by the coaching staff.
The skipper said preparations have gone well and that the team is determined to begin the tournament on a positive note.
“The coaches have done their part and it’s now up to us players to deliver. Our focus is on tomorrow’s game. We will be taking one game at a time.”
Eyes on Three Points
Zambia will be hoping to begin their WAFCON campaign with maximum points as they look to qualify for the knockout stages.
With a fully fit squad and confidence running high, the Copper Queens will be aiming to showcase the exciting brand of football that has established them among Africa’s leading women’s national teams.
The match against Egypt kicks off at 19:00 Zambian time at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, Morocco.
Conclusion
The Copper Queens head into their WAFCON opener with confidence, a fully fit squad and a clear game plan.
Now, all eyes will be on Barbra Banda and her teammates as Zambia looks to make the perfect start to its quest for continental glory.
