Barbra Banda Makes CAF Awards Final Shortlist
Zambian and Orlando Pride striker Barbra Banda has been named among the Top Three finalists for the Women’s Player of the Year category in the 2024 CAF Awards. This prestigious recognition cements her status as one of the most outstanding players in African women’s football.
Banda will face stiff competition from Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, who plays for Paris FC, and Moroccan midfielder Sanaa Mssoudy of AS FAR.
Barbra Banda’s inclusion in the final three is a testament to her exceptional performances on the field. The Zambian captain has been instrumental for both her national team and her club, Orlando Pride, showcasing incredible skill, leadership, and consistency.
This nomination comes at a time when Zambian women’s football is gaining global recognition, thanks to trailblazers like Banda and the Copper Queens’ remarkable achievements on the international stage, including their historic FIFA Women’s World Cup debut in 2023.
The shortlist notably excludes the Malawian sister duo of Temwa and Tabitha Chawinga, despite their stellar performances. However, the focus remains on the three exceptional athletes vying for the top prize.
The winner will be announced during the 2024 CAF Awards ceremony, scheduled to take place on Monday, December 16, 2024, in Marrakesh, Morocco.
Top Three Nominees:
Barbra Banda – Zambia/Orlando Pride
Chiamaka Nnadozie – Nigeria/Paris FC
Sanaa Mssoudy – Morocco/AS FAR
Barbra Banda’s presence in the top three is a source of immense pride for Zambia, highlighting the country’s growing influence in African football. As the countdown to the awards begins, Zambians will be rallying behind their star striker in hopes of her bringing home the coveted title.
Good luck, Barbra Banda!
