FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Strip Clyde Senaji of Captaincy

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have removed Kenyan defender Clyde Senaji from the captaincy just weeks after his appointment, replacing him with midfielder Lloyd Aaron.

Coach Peter Mponda confirmed the decision during a press briefing, stating that the leadership change was made in the interest of the team but did not disclose the exact reasons behind Senaji’s demotion. Mponda emphasized that captaincy requires more than just wearing the armband—it demands leadership both on and off the pitch.

“Being a captain is not just about wearing the armband, it is about leadership. Now I want to confirm that starting from today, the captain is Lloyd Aaron and the second captain is Yankho Singo,” Mponda told The Nation newspaper.

The move marks a dramatic U-turn by the Bullets’ coach, who had only recently praised Senaji’s leadership qualities upon naming him captain following the departure of Gomezgani Chirwa to FC Platinum in Zimbabwe.

Senaji, formerly of AFC Leopards and Tusker FC in Kenya, joined the Blantyre-based giants in 2023 and helped them secure back-to-back TNM Super League titles. His leadership was initially seen as vital to maintaining Bullets’ dominance in Malawi’s top-flight.

Despite the internal shake-up, Bullets remain in formidable form, sitting at the top of the 2025 TNM Super League table after winning their first five matches of the campaign.

The decision to reshuffle the captaincy comes as the club looks to maintain cohesion and discipline in a tightly contested title race.
