ZB JOINS SUPER LEAGUE SPONSORSHIP BAND…also takes over Charity Shield Rights
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and Zambia Breweries have penned a K3 million third-tier sponsorship for the MTN Super League.
In addition to joining leading telecommunication giant, MTN, in sponsoring the MTN Super League, Zambia Breweries have pumped-in K250,000 for the 2022 Charity Shield to be contested by Red Arrows and NAPSA Stars on 13 August, 2022.
Speaking during the launch of the 2022/23 Zambia Premier League and ‘Samuel Zoom Ndhlovu’ Charity Shield sponsorship announcement, FAZ president Andrew Kamanga said his executive was excited welcome Zambia Breweries at a time when the country was in celebratory mood following Chipolopolo’s triumph at the COSAFA Cup and the Copper Queen’s bronze medal finish at the WAFCON.
“We are more excited that Zambian Breweries will come in as tier three sponsors on the MTN Super League. For avoidance of doubt, MTN Zambia will remain headline sponsors,” Kamanga said.
“This demonstrates what we have always said about other sponsorship opportunities for other corporates coming on board. MTN has not closed opportunities for other bodies to offer sponsorship for the league.”
Kamanga urged other corporate bodies to utilize the Association’s open sponsorship policy in order to give the game a huge boost.
“We also extend an invitation to the corporate world to sponsor our newly formed Women Super League. with the Copper Queens flying high, we have no doubt that the corporate bodies will see an opportunity in helping grow women football. The opportunity is ripe for the women’s game to graduate to the next level,” Kamanga said.
Zambia Breweries Coorparate Affairs Manager Ezekiel Sekele said the company was proud to partner with FAZ in the development of football in the country.
“We will be investing K3 million in the MTN Super league for this season, we are going to have additional investments during the games and some other activities and this will see the investment go beyond,” Sekele said.
“For the Charity shield it’s K250,000 which gives us the naming rights but we will maintain the same Samuel Zoom Ndhlovu as the name. The Charity shield is one off event will sponsor the one this year and we intend to also sponsor the next one coming, for the super league is a period of 12 months which is this season and we are looking at opportunities of continue g in the next coming years.”
Sports permanent secretary Kangwa Chileshe thanked Zambia Breweries PLC for their commitment to promotion and development of sport and football in particular in the country.
“I wish to encourage Zambia Breweries and many other corporate business organisations, in the spirit of gender equality to consider introducing the sponsorship of women football league which is still in its infancy stage,” said Kangwa in a speech read on his behalf by Human Resource Director Binwell Mwansa.
“This will contribute to the development and promotion of women football in the country following the spending performance of the Copper Queens at the just ended Women’s Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco.”
