Aba Yellow Strengthen Title Bid with Hard-Fought Win
Power Dynamos took a major step toward securing their eighth MTN Super League title with a 1-0 victory over ZESCO United at Arthur Davies Stadium. With just five games remaining, the win extends Aba Yellow’s lead at the top to six points, putting them in a commanding position.
The game remained goalless at halftime, but Ishmael Eddie Ankobo broke the deadlock in the 51st minute, sealing an eighth consecutive victory for Oswald Mutapa’s men. Power Dynamos are now unbeaten in their last ten league matches, a run that has strengthened their grip on the title race.
Mutapa: “There’s Still Work to Do”
Despite his team’s strong position, Power Dynamos head coach Oswald Mutapa has urged his players to remain focused in the final stretch of the season.
“Yes, [we are] one hand on the trophy, but there’s still a lot of work to be done. Six points is just two games, and with five games to go, we need about two or three more wins, depending on other results.”
Mutapa also emphasized the need to avoid complacency:
“We have won games, but we have not won anything yet. This is the time to work extra hard.”
ZESCO United Still Hopeful in Title Chase
Meanwhile, ZESCO United’s interim coach, Emmanuel Siwale, believes the title race is far from over, despite his team dropping crucial points.
“It’s not a good result; we wanted to win, and we prepared well. The boys played well, but we didn’t take our chances. If we had converted our opportunities, it could have been a different story.”
Siwale remains optimistic:
“There are still five games to go, and no one has won the title yet. This is football, so we will keep pushing.”
With only a handful of matches left, Power Dynamos are in pole position to reclaim the league crown. However, with challengers like ZESCO United still fighting, the final rounds of the MTN Super League promise to be intense.
