Perry Mutapa Says Green Eagles Deserved More After Nkwazi Draw

Green Eagles FC head coach Perry Mutapa believes his side could have collected maximum points against Nkwazi FC after creating several opportunities in the second half, despite being held to a draw in their MTN Super League Transitional Season encounter.

Mutapa acknowledged that Nkwazi controlled the first half with their passing and general play but insisted that they did not create clear threats on goal. He felt Green Eagles improved as the match progressed and created enough chances to win, although they were unable to convert them.

“We outplayed them towards the end of the second half. Although we couldn’t convert our chances, we created more than enough to win,” Mutapa stated.

The Green Eagles coach admitted that the result felt like two points dropped but said his team would accept the point and shift its focus to the next assignment.

While reflecting on the match, Mutapa also highlighted the importance of squad depth, praising the contribution of his substitutes as the team sought to change the course of the contest.

The coach further explained that his defensive approach was designed to prevent Nkwazi from playing vertical passes into the penalty area. He was pleased with how goalkeeper Mangani Banda handled the challenge, noting that the shot-stopper was equal to the task throughout the encounter.

Despite their inability to secure all three points, Mutapa will take encouragement from his side’s second-half response and the opportunities created. The focus will now be on improving their finishing and building on the positive aspects of the performance in their next fixture.
