Zambia international striker Patson Daka has completed his move to German Bundesliga side Hamburger SV, signing a one-year contract with an option to extend for a further year.
The 27-year-old is scheduled to undergo his medical today and is expected to be officially unveiled by the club on Tuesday, according to sources.
The transfer marks a new chapter in Daka’s career as he returns to German football after leaving Leicester City, where he spent five seasons following his move from RB Salzburg in 2021.
Successful Spell at Leicester City
During his time with the Foxes, Daka made 165 appearances, scored 29 goals and registered 18 assists across all competitions.
The Chipolopolo captain also enjoyed several memorable achievements, including winning the FA Community Shield and helping Leicester City secure an immediate return to the Premier League by lifting the EFL Championship title.
He also leaves the King Power Stadium as Leicester City’s all-time leading scorer in European competitions, having netted six goals.
Return to Top-Flight Football
After competing in England’s second tier last season, Daka now returns to top-flight football with one of Germany’s most historic clubs.
Hamburger SV will be hoping the Zambian international’s pace, movement and clinical finishing can help strengthen their attack as they prepare for the new Bundesliga campaign.
Carrying Zambia’s Bundesliga Legacy
Daka is set to become the latest Zambian to feature in the Bundesliga, ending a long wait for Zambian representation in Germany’s top flight.
The last Zambian to score in the Bundesliga was Christopher Katongo, who netted three goals for Arminia Bielefeld.
Before him, Andrew Sinkala scored three Bundesliga goals during his career, while Moses Sichone found the net once.
Daka now has the opportunity to add his name to that list and become the first Zambian in years to score in Germany’s top division.
A Fresh Challenge
Having already enjoyed success in Austria and England, Daka now embarks on another exciting challenge in one of Europe’s biggest leagues.
His arrival is expected to boost Hamburger SV’s attacking options as the club looks to establish itself back in the Bundesliga.
Conclusion
Patson Daka’s move to Hamburger SV is another significant milestone in his career and an exciting development for Zambian football.
As the Chipolopolo captain prepares for life in the Bundesliga, supporters will be hoping he can continue his impressive goalscoring record and inspire a new generation of Zambian players on the European stage.
