Mumamba Numba Speaks Out Against Kabwe Warriors’ ‘Selfish’ Actions”
Zanaco FC coach Mumamba Numba has openly criticized his former club, Kabwe Warriors, for what he describes as “selfish” behavior in refusing to grant him clearance to sit on the bench since joining the Bankers. The dispute stems from Numba’s abrupt departure from Kabwe Warriors on January 8, when he accepted an offer to replace veteran coach Wedson Nyirenda at Zanaco, the seven-time Zambian champions.
Kabwe Warriors, however, were dissatisfied with the manner in which Numba left the club. They responded by withholding his official clearance and reporting the matter to the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ). As a result, Numba and his assistant, Noel Mwandila, have been unable to sit on the bench during Zanaco’s matches, creating an unusual and challenging situation for the team.
Numba expressed his frustration with the ongoing issue, stating that the matter could have been resolved amicably. “It is something that is very simple and easy to deal with because if you look at the contract, it has a provision where either party can terminate and pay off the other,” he said. “I think Warriors have been too selfish. We have indicated that ‘we can pay you [Warriors],’ but they just want to do what they want. Otherwise, we wait until FAZ deals with that matter.”
Despite the off-field drama, Numba insists that the situation has not disrupted Zanaco’s preparations or performance. “This situation has no effect on our technical bench. The most important thing is what we do in training. That is what matters most. I have a very capable technical bench,” he added.
However, Zanaco’s recent results have raised concerns among fans. The team suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Power Dynamos at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe on Saturday, marking their second loss under Numba’s leadership. The defeat has added pressure on the coach and the team as they look to turn their fortunes around in the Zambian Premier League.
As the FAZ clearance dispute continues, all eyes will be on how the situation unfolds and whether Kabwe Warriors and Zanaco can reach a resolution. For now, Mumamba Numba remains focused on steering Zanaco back to winning ways, despite the challenges posed by his former club.
