Kings Kangwa Scores on UEFA Conference League Debut for Panathinaikos

Zambia international Kings Kangwa marked his UEFA Conference League debut with a goal as Greek side Panathinaikos began their league-phase campaign with a 2-1 victory over Bosnian outfit Borac Banja Luka.

The Chipolopolo midfielder struck in the 70th minute to double Panathinaikos’ advantage after Cyriel Dessers had opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the first half. The victory also provided a timely response for the Greek side, who returned to winning ways following their derby defeat to Olympiacos.

Panathinaikos started brightly and appeared to have an early opportunity to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty in the third minute following a VAR review for a foul on Dessers by Herrera. However, Tamborda was unable to convert, with the Borac goalkeeper saving his effort.

The hosts continued to apply pressure and were rewarded in the 10th minute when another VAR intervention resulted in a penalty after Dessers was brought down by Meyers. The forward made no mistake from the spot, giving Panathinaikos an early advantage.

Borac looked for a response after the break, with Sanitsanin threatening through a header shortly after the restart. Panathinaikos, however, regained control and continued to search for a second goal to strengthen their position.

Their persistence paid off in the 70th minute when Antino produced an impressive run down the left flank before delivering a cross into the penalty area. Kangwa arrived at the right moment and finished confidently to make it 2-0, marking his first goal on his Conference League debut for the Greek club.

The goal put Panathinaikos in a commanding position, but Borac refused to give up. Jojić reduced the deficit in the 80th minute with a shot from the edge of the penalty area, setting up a tense closing period.
Panathinaikos managed the final stages effectively, preventing the visitors from finding another equaliser and securing all three points to begin their European campaign with a win.

For Kangwa, the goal represents an encouraging start to his Conference League journey. The Zambian midfielder will be looking to build on the performance as Panathinaikos continue their campaign, while his contribution provides another positive moment for Zambian football on the European stage.
