Grant Open To Forgiving Fashion Sakala If He Apologizes
Chipolopolo head coach, Avram Grant, has addressed the ongoing situation regarding the absence of Zambian forward Fashion Sakala from the national team. In a candid statement, Grant made it clear that the door for Sakala’s return remains open, but only if the player is willing to admit his mistake and apologize.
“I believe in values and standards, and these are for everybody. I will keep these standards,” Grant stated firmly. The coach emphasized that the same rules apply to all players, regardless of their stature or role within the team.
Sakala has been notably absent from recent Zambia squads, and speculation has swirled regarding the reasons behind his exclusion. While not delving into specifics, Grant made it clear that public comments or behavior that undermine the team’s unity will not be tolerated. “If Sunzu speaks about his friends in the media, I will not call him to the squad. If Patson Daka or any player publicly talks about his fellow players or coach, I will not call them to the squad,” Grant said, stressing the importance of respect and discretion.
The coach also emphasized that his stance is not negotiable, stating, “And if FAZ finds a problem in this, it’s their problem.” However, he did leave a pathway for reconciliation, adding that the issue could be resolved if Sakala acknowledges his actions and takes responsibility.
“If the player realizes he made a mistake, he has my direct line, I will answer. And if he says ‘sorry I was angry and made a mistake’, he will be forgiven. This is for all players. I believe in values on and off the pitch,” Grant concluded.
The statement signals Grant’s commitment to maintaining discipline and unity within the Chipolopolo squad, while still leaving the possibility for Fashion Sakala’s return if the player is willing to make amends. Whether Sakala will take up the offer remains to be seen, but the ball is now in his court.
