Chipolopolo Boys forward Fashion Sakala was named Player of the Match after playing a key role in Al Fayha’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Abha in the Saudi Pro League on Friday.
Sakala was a constant threat throughout the contest and was directly involved in two of Al Fayha’s three goals as the hosts held off a late fightback from Abha. Lázaro opened the scoring in the 32nd minute before doubling Al Fayha’s advantage shortly after half-time.
The Zambia international played a key role in the second goal, with his effort saved by Abha goalkeeper Donovan Léon before the ball struck the post and fell kindly for Lázaro, who finished from close range. Sakala continued to trouble the Abha defence and came close to getting on the scoresheet himself on several occasions, forcing Léon into further saves.
Abha reduced the deficit in the 84th minute through Alimami Gory, but Al Fayha quickly restored their two-goal advantage three minutes later. Sakala’s shot was turned into his own net by Abdou Diallo to make it 3-1 and put the hosts back in control.
The visitors were handed another lifeline deep into stoppage time after a VAR review awarded a penalty for handball against Makhir Al Rashidi. Michy Batshuayi stepped up and converted from the spot in the 94th minute to make it 3-2.
Batshuayi nearly completed a remarkable comeback moments later, but his effort was saved by Al Fayha goalkeeper Orlando Mosquera as the hosts held on to secure all three points.
Sakala’s influential display was rewarded with the official Player of the Match award, further underlining his growing importance to Al Fayha’s attack. The victory also gave Al Fayha their first Saudi Pro League win of the season, while Sakala continues to build momentum ahead of his upcoming assignments with Zambia.
