Zambia and Mozambique Play Out Goalless Draw in COSAFA Women’s Championship

In a closely contested match in the COSAFA Women’s Championship, Zambia and Mozambique battled to a goalless draw. The encounter saw Mozambique enjoying the lion’s share of possession, particularly in the first half, although clear-cut scoring opportunities were scarce.

The second half saw the Copper Queens’ coach, Florence Nkatya, making early substitutions, bringing Natasha Nanyangwe on for Salome Phiri and introducing Sarah Jere in place of Maylan Mulenga. These changes were aimed at breaking the deadlock and securing an opening goal for Zambia. However, despite their efforts, they struggled to penetrate Mozambique’s defense.

This match was the only one in the tournament thus far not to produce any goals. In total, there have been 15 goals scored in the championship, with 10 coming from the opening day of Group A and the remaining five from the first match in Group B.

In the standings, Mozambique’s Ladies occupy the second spot with one point, followed by Zambia in third place, also with one point. Comoros finds itself at the bottom of the group with no points. Meanwhile, in the other group match, Angola demonstrated their strength by defeating Comoros with a resounding 5-0 victory, positioning themselves as the frontrunners in the group. The COSAFA Women’s Championship promises more exciting action as the tournament unfolds.
