Zambia Under-17 Women’s National Team coach Carol Kanyemba has handed a maiden call-up to England-based midfielder Asher Mwamba ahead of the Copper Princesses’ crucial FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Ethiopia.
The 16-year-old has been included in the squad for the first leg of the final qualifying round, scheduled for July 4 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Her inclusion comes after years of impressive performances in England, where she has developed into one of the most promising young Zambian football talents abroad.
A Rising Star in England
Born in Zambia to Zambian parents now based in England, Mwamba has successfully balanced her education with a rapidly developing football career.
The talented youngster recently completed her GCSE examinations while continuing to impress on the football pitch.
Over the last three years, she has been a key player at Brighton Academy, having joined the club at Under-13 level.
During her time there, she helped the academy win several trophies, including the Junior Premier League (JPL) Under-16 Girls Championship.
Catching the Eye of Top Clubs
Mwamba’s performances did not go unnoticed.
Known for her creativity, goalscoring ability and technical quality, she consistently ranked among Brighton Academy’s most influential players and leading scorers.
Her impressive displays attracted interest from several clubs, including Fulham and London City Lionesses, with the latter eventually securing her services.
The move represents another significant step in her promising football journey.
Boost for the Copper Princesses
Kanyemba will be hoping Mwamba’s attacking qualities can add another dimension to a Zambia side chasing a third consecutive FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup appearance.
The Copper Princesses face Ethiopia in a two-legged tie that will determine which nation secures a place at the global tournament.
With her ability to operate as both an attacking midfielder and forward, Mwamba offers versatility and creativity in the final third.
