Power Dynamos head coach Oswald Mutapa says his team is ready to prove they belong among Africa’s elite after being drawn in what he calls a “group of big boys” in the CAF Champions League group stage.
The MTN Super League champions have been placed in Group A alongside defending CAF Champions League winners Pyramids FC (Egypt), CAF Confederation Cup holders RS Berkane (Morocco), and Nigeria’s Rivers United three continental heavyweights with proven pedigree in African football.
Speaking to the media after the draw, Mutapa acknowledged the strength of the group but expressed confidence in his team’s quality and mentality.
“Yes, everyone has seen the group, it’s a tough group. Playing the champions of the Champions League and the champions of the Confederation Cup is never easy,” Mutapa said. “Also, playing Rivers United of Nigeria, who have reached the quarterfinals before, adds to the challenge. But this is a group of big boys, and we are equally big boys because we are in that group.”
Power Dynamos earned their place in the group stage after overcoming Asec Mimosas of Ivory Coast and Vipers SC of Uganda, showcasing their tactical discipline and resilience across both legs. The Ndola-based club now face the ultimate test of consistency and endurance as they prepare to make their CAF Champions League group stage debut.
With Power returning to continental prominence, Mutapa emphasized that his team’s focus will be on performance, adaptability, and representing Zambia with pride.
“We’ve come this far by working hard and believing in ourselves,” he added. “Now we have to approach every game with the same hunger. These are big clubs, but we’ve earned our spot here. It’s time to show what Zambian football is made of.”
The CAF Champions League group stage is set to kick off on November 21–22, 2025, with Power Dynamos opening their campaign at home in Ndola.
Power Dynamos’ inclusion in a tough CAF Champions League group is both a test and an opportunity. Under Oswald Mutapa’s leadership, the Zambian champions are out to prove that they belong among the “big boys” of African football. With determination, quality, and tactical focus, Power Dynamos will be looking to make their mark on the continental stage.
