Penalty Hero Lawrence Mulenga Sends Power to ABSA Cup Final

Penalty Hero Lawrence Mulenga Sends Power Dynamos to ABSA Cup Final

Lawrence Mulenga produced a match-winning performance, saving three penalties to send Power Dynamos into the final of the ABSA Cup after a dramatic shootout victory over Mufulira Wanderers.

The semifinal ended goalless after regulation time, with both sides unable to break the deadlock in a tightly contested encounter. However, the game ultimately turned in the penalty shootout, where Mulenga’s composure and shot-stopping ability proved decisive.

Power Dynamos secured a 2-1 win on penalties, with Samuel Bamidele Ayodeji and Ishmael Ankobo converting their spot kicks. For Wanderers, William Kamwanga was the only player to find the net, as Mulenga denied Patson Kwataime, Elijah Jere, and Maybin Mpoyi from the spot. Bartuel Tembo also missed, compounding Wanderers’ frustration.

Despite two missed penalties from Dominic Chanda and Kondwani Chiboni, Power Dynamos held their nerve to progress, with Mulenga’s heroics earning him the Man of the Match award and a K15,000 cash prize.

The result sends Power Dynamos into the ABSA Cup final, where they will face the winner between Chirundu United and Red Arrows.

With the title on the line, the stakes remain high. The eventual champions will walk away with K1.1 million, while the runners-up will receive K450,000, adding further significance to what promises to be a high-profile final.
