The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has appointed Chipolopolo and Leicester City striker Patson Daka as its newest Goodwill Ambassador, entrusting him with a global role in the fight against hunger.
In this position, Daka will use his influential platform to advocate for WFP’s programmes, with a strong focus on youth empowerment, nutrition, resilience building, and community development. As an Ambassador, he will help shine a spotlight on key WFP initiatives such as school feeding programmes, emergency food assistance, and long-term resilience projects, encouraging people to “Team Up for Zero Hunger.”
Speaking after the announcement, Daka expressed deep gratitude and commitment to the mission:
“I am deeply honoured to be named a Goodwill Ambassador for the World Food Programme in Zambia. Growing up here, I saw firsthand how hunger affects families and holds back potential. This role is more than a title — it’s a deep commitment to ensure every child in Zambia has access to the food and nutrition they need to thrive, dream, and succeed. Together, we can build a future where no one is held back by hunger.”
WFP Zambia Country Director, Cissy Kabasuuga, praised the striker’s appointment, noting that Daka’s influence—especially among young people—will help broaden the reach of WFP’s message on nutrition and food security.
“We welcome Patson to the WFP family. Patson embodies the spirit of teamwork and perseverance. His voice will help us reach new audiences—especially young people—with the message that good nutrition is fundamental to empowering the next generation.”
Over the coming months, Daka will participate in community visits, engage in awareness campaigns, and support advocacy efforts highlighting how food security shapes national health and development.
WFP continues to work with the Government of Zambia and partners to strengthen food systems, support smallholder farmers, boost school meal programmes, provide nutrition assistance, and help communities adapt to climate-related shocks.
About WFP:
The World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian organisation, focused on saving lives in emergencies and building long-term resilience for communities affected by conflict, disasters, and climate change.
