Zambian international striker Kingstone Mutandwa has joined Swiss top-flight side Servette FC on loan from Italian club Cagliari Calcio, with the deal including an option for the Geneva-based club to make the move permanent.
The 23-year-old forward arrives at Servette after an impressive campaign in Austria, where he scored 14 goals in 29 official appearances for SV Ried. His goal tally made him the Austrian Bundesliga’s leading scorer excluding penalty goals, highlighting the progress he has made since making the move to Europe.
Mutandwa was developed in Zambia before continuing his career in Italy, where he came through Cagliari’s youth system and eventually progressed into professional football. His performances have also earned him recognition at international level, with the striker establishing himself as part of the Zambia national team setup.
Servette have described Mutandwa as a powerful and athletic striker, with his arrival expected to add further strength and attacking options to head coach Jocelyn Gourvennec’s squad. The move gives the Zambian another opportunity to build on his breakthrough season and test himself in a new European top flight.
Servette are one of Switzerland’s historic clubs, having been founded in March 1890 and based in Geneva. Known as “The Garnets”, the club have won the Swiss league title 17 times, with their most recent championship coming in the 1998/99 season. They have also lifted the Swiss Cup on eight occasions.
For Mutandwa, the immediate challenge will be to translate the prolific form he showed in Austria to the Swiss Super League. With Servette holding an option to make the transfer permanent, a strong spell in Geneva could prove another important step in the 23-year-old’s growing European career.
