Green Buffaloes Opponents for COSAFA 2024 Unveiled
Zambian champions Green Buffaloes will compete against University of Western Cape FC of South Africa in Group A of the CAF Women’s Champions League | COSAFA Qualifier 2024. This event will take place in Blantyre, Malawi, from August 15-24, 2024.
Group A Teams:
University of Western Cape FC (South Africa)
Green Buffaloes (Zambia)
Herentals Queens (Zimbabwe)
FC Ongos Ladies (Namibia)
Group B Teams:
Ascent Academy (Malawi)
Gaborone United Ladies FC (Botswana)
Uniao Desportiva da Lichinga (Mozambique)
Young Buffaloes (Eswatini)
The draw for the COSAFA Women’s Champions League was conducted by COSAFA competitions manager Joshua Knipp and Banyana Banyana captain Refiloe Jane in Johannesburg. The competition will feature a round-robin format, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semifinals. Only the winner of the qualifiers will proceed to the continental competition later this year.
Two-time CAF Women’s Champions League winners and current holders Mamelodi Sundowns have automatically qualified for the defense of their African title, thus they will not be participating in the COSAFA tournament this year. This ensures that the Southern African region will have two representatives in the continental finals: Sundowns and the winning team from the qualifiers in Malawi.
