Emmanuel Banda Scores as Al-Tai Strengthens Promotion Bid in Saudi First Division
Chipolopolo midfielder Emmanuel Banda delivered a standout performance in the Saudi First Division League, scoring and assisting to help Al-Tai secure a 2-1 victory over Abha. The result moves Al-Tai to fourth place, just two points behind league leaders Neom SC, in the race for promotion to Saudi Arabia’s top flight.
Banda’s Impactful Season
The 25-year-old Banda, who joined Al-Tai from Croatian side Rijeka FC in September, has been instrumental for his new team. His latest goal ended an 11-match drought, bringing his season tally to three goals and one assist in 12 league appearances. Banda had previously made an impressive debut, scoring twice in Al-Tai’s 3-2 victory over Al Jandal in November.
Eyes on the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers
Banda’s resurgence comes at a crucial time as Zambia gears up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The Chipolopolo face Congo Brazzaville on March 22, 2025, and will look to Banda’s experience and form to bolster their campaign. Zambia currently sits third in Group E and will aim to improve their chances of securing a spot at the global event.
National Team Journey
Banda returned to Zambia’s national team in October after being dropped following the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). He played in both matches against Chad, contributing to the team’s 0-0 draw and a 1-0 win. He was also part of the squad that defeated Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast in November, sealing Zambia’s place in the 2025 AFCON set to take place in Morocco.
Al-Tai’s Promotion Hopes
With Banda’s contribution, Al-Tai is firmly in the hunt for promotion. The team’s impressive form and Banda’s ability to influence games in crucial moments make them strong contenders for a top-flight spot.
