Copper Princesses Qualify for Third Consecutive FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup

The Zambia Under-17 Women’s National Team has qualified for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after holding Ethiopia to a 1-1 draw in the second leg of the final qualifying round in Addis Ababa on Sunday.

The Copper Princesses progressed 3-2 on aggregate after winning the first leg 2-1 in Ndola, securing a historic third consecutive appearance at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Head coach Carol Kanyemba and her players once again demonstrated resilience away from home to keep Zambia among Africa’s elite youth women’s football nations.

Mwewa Gives Zambia Control

After a closely contested first half, Zambia made the perfect start to the second period.

Precious Mwewa broke the deadlock in the 46th minute, finishing calmly to put the Copper Princesses 1-0 ahead on the day and extend their aggregate advantage to 3-1.

The result means Zambia has now qualified for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup for the third consecutive edition, having also featured at the 2024 and 2025 tournaments.
