Barbra Banda’s Boots Take Center Stage at FIFA Museum
Football history comes alive at the FIFA Museum in Zurich, with a new exhibit dedicated to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and featuring a prominent display of Copper Queens captain Barbra Banda’s boots.
Marking the 1,000th goal in World Cup history, Banda’s penalty-kick boots worn during Zambia’s 3-1 victory over Costa Rica take center stage, alongside the actual ball used for the monumental score. This inclusion in the prestigious museum, boasting one of the most comprehensive football collections, elevates Banda’s achievement to international recognition.
“It’s a celebration of women’s football,” stated Sarai Bareman, FIFA Chief Women’s Football Officer, regarding the new exhibit. “Fans can experience some of the tournament’s standout objects, ensuring the 2023 World Cup is remembered as a game-changer.”

Beyond Banda’s iconic boots, the exhibit showcases a diverse array of artifacts:
Linda Caicedo’s home shirt: The Colombian wonderkid’s jersey encapsulates her breakout performance on the world stage.
Casey Phair’s boots: Celebrating the youngest player ever in the tournament, the South Korean talent’s boots mark a special chapter in World Cup history.
Yoshimi Yamashita’s headset: The first referee to announce a VAR decision live in a World Cup match, Yamashita’s headset symbolizes the advancement of officiating technology.
The FIFA Museum exhibit not only immortalizes the 2023 World Cup’s triumphs but also serves as a valuable historical archive for future generations. Banda’s boots, alongside these other significant objects, tell the story of a tournament that pushed the boundaries of women’s football and inspired millions globally.
This prominent display at the FIFA Museum further cements Barbra Banda’s place as a legend in African and world football, ensuring her remarkable achievement finds its rightful place among the sport’s most treasured artifacts.
