ZPL Announces Major League Name Changes to Boost Football Growth
The Zambian Premier League (ZPL) has officially announced the rebranding of its major leagues as part of a strategic move to professionalize and enhance the commercial appeal of Zambian football. These changes were ratified during the FAZ Extraordinary General Meeting on September 28, 2024, following consultations held earlier in Ndola on September 10, 2024.
New League Names:
- Women’s Super League → Now rebranded as the ZPL Women’s Super League
- National Division One League → Now the ZPL National League
- National Women’s League → Now the ZPL Women’s National League
Vision Behind the Change:
The rebranding reflects the ZPL’s vision of aligning all its leagues under a unified brand, focusing on professionalization, commercialization, and the growth of Zambian football. The move is expected to enhance the visibility of the leagues, attract more sponsorship opportunities, and give fans a stronger connection to the sport.
Impact on Zambian Football:
This renaming initiative is a step towards a more cohesive and professional football structure in Zambia. By adopting the ZPL label, the leagues are expected to gain better recognition both locally and internationally, contributing to a stronger football identity for the country.
The Zambian Premier League continues to position itself as a leader in football development, and this rebranding marks another milestone in the journey toward global competitiveness.
