Zambian Super League side Zanaco FC have completed the signing of Chimwemwe Idana, Malawi’s 2024 Player of the Season. The move marks a significant step in the career of the 26-year-old midfielder, who was one of the standout performers in the TNM Super League.
Idana left Malawi on Tuesday morning to complete his long-anticipated switch to Zambia. The Bankers had initially pursued his signature last year, but the transfer was delayed until now.
A Long-Awaited Move Finally Sealed
Idana, speaking to reporters before his departure, described the moment as a dream come true:
“I am happy for this; it has been a long wait for it to finally come true. I cannot say what I was doing in Malawi will be the same in Zambia. Mine is a prayer that God should be with me — it is possible once God is involved,” said the former Silver Strikers playmaker.
The deal has been completed for an undisclosed fee, and Idana now becomes one of the biggest Malawian exports to Zambian football in recent seasons.
Silver Strikers Confirm Departure
Malawian giants Silver Strikers confirmed Idana’s departure in a heartfelt statement on Monday. Club CEO Patrick Chimimba praised the midfielder for his dedication and character.
“Midfielder maestro Chimwemwe Idana has left the club after spending a good three years with us,” the club stated.
“The extraordinary midfielder last played for Silver Strikers in our 3-1 win against Karonga United on Wednesday, 25 June 2025, where he christened his farewell match with a man-of-the-match performance and a goal. The jersey number 44 came to Area 47, he conquered, and left an indelible mark in the hearts of many.”
Idana was widely regarded as the engine of Silver Strikers’ midfield and was instrumental in their push for silverware last season.
What Idana Brings to Zanaco
A technically gifted midfielder with a sharp eye for passes and composure under pressure, Chimwemwe Idana will add flair and vision to Zanaco’s midfield. His arrival comes at a time when Zanaco are rebuilding with ambition after a mixed 2024/25 MTN Super League campaign.
The club will be hoping his leadership and playmaking skills can elevate them into title contention next season.
