Mumamba Numba Hails Zanaco’s Fighting Spirit After Comeback Win
Zanaco FC secured a crucial 2-1 away victory over Mutondo Stars at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Saturday, with head coach Mumamba Numba describing the win as an important morale boost in their bid to climb the MTN Super League table. The Bankers fought back from an early deficit, scoring twice in the final six minutes to claim all three points.
Kaniki Strikes Early for Mutondo Stars
The match, which served as a curtain-raiser for the Ndola Derby between Zesco United and Forest Rangers, saw Mutondo Stars take an early lead in the 7th minute through Moise Kaniki. The home side dominated the opening exchanges, frustrating Zanaco and limiting their attacking opportunities.
Despite trailing at halftime, Zanaco remained patient, gradually increasing their attacking intensity in search of an equalizer.
“A very important victory away from home playing a very determined Mutondo Stars. We played well. This is a game that we had control,” Numba said in a post-match interview.
Late Heroics Secure Zanaco’s Comeback Win
The second half saw Zanaco shift gears, and their persistence paid off in dramatic fashion. Brian Kabika restored parity in the 84th minute, finishing off a well-worked attacking move. Just three minutes later, Moyela Libamba found the back of the net in the 87th minute, sealing a vital victory for the visitors.
“We showed character coming back and getting a victory that has pushed us up on the log,” Numba added.
Zanaco’s Survival Fight Gains Momentum
The victory lifts Zanaco to 29 points, significantly boosting their fight to avoid relegation. Numba emphasized the psychological importance of the win ahead of their next match against Zesco United, who played out a goalless draw with Forest Rangers on the same day.
“It is a very big boost for us because we really needed this game to survive relegation. I think it will motivate us going into our next game against Zesco United,” Numba concluded.
With momentum on their side, Zanaco will now shift their focus to their next crucial fixture against Zesco United, aiming to build on this confidence-boosting comeback.
