Zambia U20 Boys Secure 2-0 Victory Over Red Arrows
The Zambia U20 Men’s National Team delivered an encouraging performance, defeating Red Arrows 2-0 in a preparatory match at Nkoloma Stadium, Lusaka. This match served as vital preparation for the upcoming COSAFA U20 Championship, which will take place in Mozambique from September 26 to October 1, 2024.
After a 2-0 defeat to ZANACO earlier in the week, the Young Chipolopolo bounced back with a spirited display. Elias Phiri and Lawrence Lubinda found the back of the net in each half, securing victory over an experienced Red Arrows side featuring players like George Chaloba, Kebson Kamanga, Twiza Chaibela, Lubinda Mundia, and Chitiya Mususu.
Red Arrows’ main squad is currently in Lubumbashi, seeking to overturn a 2-0 deficit against TP Mazembe in the CAF Champions League. Despite this, the Airmen’s squad provided a strong test for the Zambia U20s, who capitalized on the opportunity to refine their tactics ahead of the COSAFA U20 Championship.
Zambia U20 head coach Boyd Mulwanda will be pleased with his team’s progress, especially with the COSAFA tournament serving as a qualifier for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The finalists in Mozambique will secure spots at the continental championship, adding extra significance to Zambia’s preparations.
This victory marks a positive step as the young Chipolopolo aim to replicate past successes and secure qualification for the U20 AFCON.
