Mourning Period Begins as Malawi Football Grieves Simeon Harawa
The Super League of Malawi (SULOM) has announced the postponement of two TNM Super League Week 5 fixtures following the sudden and tragic passing of Moyale Barracks goalkeeper Simeon Harawa.
In an official statement released on May 1, 2025, SULOM confirmed that two matches—Chitipa United vs Kamuzu Barracks (originally scheduled for May 4 at Karonga Stadium), and Moyale Barracks vs Karonga United (initially set for the same day)—have both been postponed.
Simeon Harawa Honoured by League and Nation
The fixture involving Moyale Barracks was postponed as a mark of respect to their fallen goalkeeper, while the other match was deferred due to logistical constraints beyond SULOM’s control.
Harawa, who died earlier this week after collapsing during a morning run, had been in fine form this season. He started all three of Moyale’s matches, keeping two clean sheets and conceding only one goal in his final outing—a narrow 1-0 defeat to Civil Service United.
SULOM Tribute: “Gone Too Soon, Forever Remembered”
In its heartfelt tribute, SULOM described Harawa as a “true guardian between the posts” and extended its condolences to the family, teammates, and entire Moyale Barracks FC community.
“Gone too soon, but forever remembered. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” read part of the statement from the league.
The statement also reiterated SULOM’s commitment to standing in solidarity with Moyale Barracks FC during this difficult time. New dates for the postponed fixtures will be communicated in due course.
A Loss Felt Across the Nation
Harawa’s passing is not only a tragedy for Moyale Barracks but a devastating blow to the Malawian football community. His performances had been instrumental in Moyale’s early-season form, and his potential was evident to all who watched him play.
As the league pauses, fans and clubs across Malawi are united in grief, reflecting on a life cut short and a career filled with promise.
