Mutondo Stars Succumb to Lumwana Radiants in a Tactical Battle
Lumwana Radiants secured a crucial 2-0 away victory over Mutondo Stars in their Week 14 MTN Super League clash. The match, played at Nkana Stadium, was a tightly contested affair until the Radiants’ resilience paid off in the second half. Abraham Kanyangala proved to be the match-winner, scoring twice in quick succession in the 72nd and 82nd minutes, delivering a valuable three points for the visiting team.
The first half saw both teams testing each other’s defensive setups, with neither side managing to find a breakthrough. Mutondo Stars had the lion’s share of possession, but their inability to convert opportunities into goals haunted them. In contrast, Lumwana Radiants adopted a more defensive approach, waiting for chances to counterattack.
Kanyangala’s first goal came after an impressive solo run, breaking through Mutondo’s defensive line to slot the ball past the goalkeeper. His second goal followed a clinical counterattack, capitalizing on a defensive lapse by Mutondo Stars, who were pushing forward in search of an equalizer.

Lumwana Radiants executed their game plan effectively, soaking up pressure and exploiting the spaces left by Mutondo’s high defensive line. Their compact defensive setup frustrated Mutondo, whose lack of creativity in the final third became evident as the game progressed. The introduction of fresh legs in the second half gave Lumwana the energy needed to press higher and force errors.
For Mutondo Stars, the defeat reflects a worrying pattern of failing to capitalize on home advantage. Despite controlling the midfield for large portions of the game, their lack of cutting-edge attacking options continues to hinder their progress in the league.
The win elevates Lumwana Radiants to 17th position with nine points, a significant morale booster as they aim to climb out of the relegation zone. Mutondo Stars, on the other hand, remain in 14th place with 16 points, leaving them precariously close to the drop zone.
