The 2025/26 MTN Super League season officially kicks off this afternoon with six matches lined up across the country, as clubs begin their quest for glory in Zambia’s most prestigious football competition.
Defending champions Power Dynamos will not be in action this weekend, as five of their key players are on international duty in Rwanda for a friendly against APR. Their absence gives the rest of the pack a chance to set the early pace before the Kitwe giants rejoin the action.
Mines United Set for Historic Super League Debut
The spotlight will shine brightest on newcomers Mines United, who play their first-ever MTN Super League match against legendary side Mighty Mufulira Wanderers at the Godfrey Ucar Chitalu Stadium.
The debutants will be eager to make history with a positive result, but standing in their way is a Mufulira Wanderers side coached by the experienced Lameck Banda. For Mines, today isn’t just about points — it’s about announcing their arrival among Zambia’s football elite.
NAPSA Stars vs Green Eagles: Clash of Styles at Woodlands Stadium
At Woodlands Stadium, NAPSA Stars host Green Eagles in what many fans are calling the “game of the weekend.”
This fixture has added spice with Perry Mutapa, recently appointed as Green Eagles head coach, facing his former club NAPSA alongside midfielder Collins Sikombe. On the opposite bench, Pensioners’ coach Sipho Mumbi is determined to get off to a flying start.
“Very excited for the coming season. We are hoping and praying that we do well, better than last season,” said Mumbi. “The first game will be very important. It’s going to give us direction towards our journey, so it’s very important that we get a positive result.”
Rangers, MUZA, and ZESCO Begin Campaigns
Over at Nchanga Stadium, Nchanga Rangers welcome Mutondo Stars in a match expected to be tightly contested, while FC MUZA lock horns with ZANACO FC, the Bankers eager to make a statement from day one.
In Ndola, nine-time champions ZESCO United begin life at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium against newly promoted Konkola Blades. The Chililabombwe-based side have been one of the busiest clubs in the transfer market, bringing in over ten new signings. The clash will be a real test of ZESCO’s readiness for both domestic and continental campaigns.
Kansanshi Dynamos vs Kabwe Warriors in Solwezi
Another exciting fixture sees Kansanshi Dynamos hosting Kabwe Warriors at Independence Stadium in Solwezi. Newly promoted Kansanshi are under the guidance of Zeddy Saileti, who has made their ambitions clear:
“We want to compete on a high level this season. We plan on having a very good game against Kabwe Warriors.”
This statement sets the tone for what could be a highly competitive battle against the Warriors, who are no strangers to strong season starts.
Sunday Action: Leopards vs Nkana Headlines the Fixtures
The action continues on Sunday with a blockbuster in Kabwe, as record 13-time champions Nkana take on Leopards FC at President Stadium. Nkana, who are desperate to restore their glory days, will need to start strong against the spirited Leopards, known as the Super Correct Boys.
Elsewhere, Nkwazi FC face Green Buffaloes, with former Buffaloes boss Aggrey Chiyangi now plotting against his old side. This reunion adds extra drama to what is already a fiercely competitive fixture.
What’s at Stake?
With Power Dynamos absent, this opening weekend provides a golden opportunity for other clubs to stamp their authority early on. For the newcomers Mines United, Konkola Blades, and Kansanshi Dynamos, these games could define their tone for the season.
As the curtain rises, one thing is certain: the MTN Super League 2025/26 promises fireworks, drama, and unforgettable moments.
