The 19th week of the Zambian Super league was filled with high-stakes action and drama as the defending champions Red Arrows took to the field against Zesco United in hopes of redeeming themselves after a previous loss. However, their hopes were dashed as they suffered a crushing defeat, losing 3-0 to Zesco United. This loss not only puts a dent in their title defence but also puts them a staggering 10 points behind league leaders Power Dynamos.
Power Dynamos, who were also looking to bounce back from a previous draw, took on Uranium boys Lumwana Radiants in a highly-anticipated match. But, despite their best efforts, they were unable to break the deadlock and the match ended in a scoreless draw. This result not only puts pressure on Power Dynamos to maintain their lead but also opens the door for other teams to close the gap.
Another exciting match of the week was between Nkana and Buildcon FC. Both teams came into the match with a different motive, Nkana, looking to bounce back from a previous defeat, while Buildcon were riding high after registering their maiden victory in their last match. In the end, it was Nkana who emerged victorious, securing a 2-1 win over Buildcon FC, thanks to goals from Lameck Kafwaya and Harrison Chisala. Buildcon‘s only goal was scored by Davies Bwalya. This win propels Nkana back into the hunt for top four finish, while Buildcon will have to regroup and come up with a new strategy to get back to winning ways.
Another promising match was between Chambishi and Green Buffaloes, where both teams were looking to shake off recent losses and make a statement.
Chambishi, coming off a crushing 3-0 defeat to Zanaco, were determined to prove that they were still a force to be reckoned with. Green Buffaloes, on the other hand, were looking to redeem themselves after a 2-1 loss to FC Muza. The stage was set for a thrilling match, and the teams did not disappoint.
The match between Chambishi and Green Buffaloes was a physical and intense battle, with both teams leaving it all on the field. The game was tied 0-0 until the 26th minute, when Nicholas Mulilo of Green Buffaloes scored the first goal of the match. Chambishi pushed forward in search of the equalizer, but Green Buffaloes’ defense held strong, and Daniel Chama and George Ngoma sealed the victory for Green Buffaloes with two more goals in 81st and 88th respectively.
Another notable match was between Kabwe Warriors and Forest Rangers. Kabwe Warriors were on a roll, having recently registered back-to-back wins, while Forest Rangers were coming off a four-goal thriller draw against Kansanshi Dynamos. The match was a closely contested battle, with both teams creating numerous scoring opportunities. In the end, the match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Kabwe Warriors scoring first through Bartuel Tembo in the 13th minute and Forest Rangers equalizing through Libamba Moyela in the 43rd minute.
FC Muza also recorded a win against Green Eagles with a solitary goal from Mwiya Mwiya in the 53rd minute, solidifying their position in the league table. The match between Prison Leopards and Kansanshi Dynamos also ended in a 1-1 draw, adding to the drama and excitement of the league.
Week 19 of the Zambian Super League was filled with surprises, and fans can expect even more drama and excitement in the coming weeks. With the league table tightening up, every match will be crucial as teams battle for the top spots..
