Kansanshi Dynamos FC were held to a 1–1 draw by Green Buffaloes FC in a tense Week 14 encounter at Edwin Imboela Stadium, as both sides settled for a point after an action-packed second half.
The home side started the match strongly, piling early pressure and forcing consecutive corners. In the 2nd minute, Arthur Muleya nearly put GBFC ahead when his header flashed just wide of the upright.
KDFC slowly settled and began finding rhythm in midfield. In the 13th minute, Willy delivered a dangerous cross into the box, but Bebe arrived a second too late as Buffaloes cleared. The visitors threatened again in the 20th minute after a smooth passing sequence ended with Willy directing a header on target, only for the GBFC goalkeeper to pull off a strong save.
Bebe came closest before the interval when he rose above the defence to meet a cross in the 44th minute, his header skimming the roof of the net as both sides went into halftime scoreless.
The match intensity shifted early in the second half. GBFC were reduced to ten men in the 57th minute after Lyson Banda received a second yellow card. Kansanshi Dynamos capitalised almost immediately. Just two minutes later, Willy Bokingo struck to give the Mabanga Boys a deserved lead.
But the hosts, despite being a man down, found a response. In the 67th minute, Martin Njovu punished a defensive lapse to level the match.
Speaking after full-time, Assistant Coach Dennis Makinka reflected on the result and the missed opportunity to secure maximum points against a ten-man opponent.
Below is what the assistant coach said:
“It was a tough game and obviously not the result that we wanted. We had chances, but we couldn’t take them. After they went one man down, our tempo dropped. We expected to push much higher, but instead it went down,” he said.
Makinka also highlighted areas that still need refinement, particularly in the attacking third.
“Today we moved the ball better, but in terms of creating chances, we didn’t do very well. The last game we created more and played better,” he noted.
Despite the disappointment, the assistant coach remains encouraged by the trajectory of the team under the new technical leadership.
“This is the second draw since Coach Fathi took over, but the team is improving. The boys are responding well, they are working hard in training, and we believe the win will come,” he added.
Kansanshi Dynamos FC will now shift focus to their next league assignment as they aim to convert their growing improvement into victories.
