Green Buffaloes to Fight & Conquer at Cosafa CAF Champions League Qualifiers
The defending COSAFA champions Green Buffaloes want to reflect their slogan “go girls fight and conquer” at this year’s CAF Womens Champions league qualifiers in eThekwini South Africa. From the assistant coach Carlo Kanyamba to captain of the side Joana Benaya and raising star Maweta Chilenga the mission is to defend their regional title which was won last year.
The Zambian champions are going at this year’s edition without their celebrated head Charles Halubono who left the club earlier this year to join Simba queens as their head coach, the former U20 Copper Princes head coach won last year’s edition beating the defending champions via penalties to book a place at the 2022 CAF Women champions league which was held in Morocco.
Last year we had two teams from the COSAFA region in the CAF champions tournament Green Buffaloes (Zambia) and Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), Sundowns were the defending champions after claiming the inaugural edition title but was dethroned last year after losing 4nil to AS FAR henceforth only one team from the COSAFA region will qualify to the 2023 CAF Women champions league.
Green Buffaloes know their task will be difficult, but they are determined to defend the CAF Womens champions league/COSAFA qualifiers title they won in Durban last year when the 2023 tournament gets under way as they will open their campaign in group A against Botswana’s double action ladies at the Sugar Ray Xulu stadium on Wednesday, kick off is 15:30 Zambian time.
