Big Boys Maite, Indeni and Blades record wins, Kafue Celtic, Lusaka Dynamos lose…….. Barts holds Yamato
The 2022/23 National Division One League kicked off on Saturday with an early kickoff match between two youthful sides ZESCO Malaiti Rangers and Atletico Lusaka in an interesting end to end match which ended a scoreless draw at the Unilus grounds in Silverest.
The second match was between new babies Aguila Stars FC and Indeni football club who were recently relegated from the Super League, against all odds it was Aguila Stars who looked like a team which will open the scoring as they threatened Joshua Titima’s goal on several occasions during the first opening 10 minutes but the Tenant Chembo coached Indeni side ensured they came back into the game and managed to grab their first goal of the match through Thomas Daka in the 24th minute.
Team Oilo stretched their lead to 2-0 in the 58th minute through David Sakala but Aguila Stars were not going down without a fight as they pulled one back through their captain and club top scorer Keke Sipuka.
In the other games played on Saturday, Konkola Blades were victorious against Kafue Eagles at the Khosa stadium in Kafue while a new looking Kafue Celtic side were condemned to a 1-0 loss at home to Young Green Buffaloes.
Troubled Lusaka Dynamos sent a clear message that they will not be an easy side to beat despite their off field problems, the elite gave Trident Football Club a good run for their money and were only beaten by a Samuel Chiteta last minute strike.
Legendary Mufulira Wanderers have sent a clear statement of their intentions to graduate from university this season though it might be too early to say but we will wait and see if they will be consistent all season.
Zeddy Saileti’s Mutondo Stars who qualified for the National League with a 100% winning record from the playoffs without conceding a goal while scoring 10 goals have maintained their momentum by beating fellow newcomers Mpulungu Harbour football club 1-0 in an away fixture.
