Eyal Lachman Joins Zambia National Team as Assistant Coach Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers
The Zambia national soccer team is gearing up for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with a significant addition to their coaching staff. Head coach Avram Grant has appointed Eyal Lachman as his assistant coach, replacing Marco Balbul, who left the position in March after his contract expired. Balbul has since taken on the role of head coach at Maccabi Netanya in Israel.
Lachman, 58, brings a wealth of experience to the Zambian national team, known as Chipolopolo. His appointment comes at a crucial time as Zambia prepares to face formidable opponents Morocco and Tanzania in the qualifiers. Lachman, who has been unattached for the past four years, last coached Israeli side Hapoel R’anana.
This strategic move by Grant aims to bolster the team’s tactical depth and provide seasoned guidance to the players. Lachman joined the Chipolopolo squad in Morocco on Wednesday night and is set to be officially introduced to the team on Thursday.
Lachman’s commitment to the Zambian national team has resulted in the postponement of a planned youth football camp. Lachman was scheduled to lead a group of school children in a football camp, demonstrating his dedication to nurturing young talent. However, his new role with the national team takes precedence as Zambia prioritizes its World Cup qualification campaign.

The Chipolopolo’s preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers involves meticulous planning and robust coaching strategies. With Lachman’s extensive coaching background and Grant’s leadership, the team is poised to tackle the challenges ahead. Their upcoming matches against Morocco and Tanzania are critical, and the addition of Lachman is expected to provide a tactical advantage.
As the Zambian national team sets its sights on the World Cup, the focus remains on building a cohesive and competitive squad. Lachman’s expertise is anticipated to play a pivotal role in shaping the team’s performance. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how this new coaching dynamic will influence the Chipolopolo’s journey through the qualifiers.
