Dynamos FC Chooses Orlando Stadium for Continental Showdown
Dynamos Football Club, one of Zimbabwe’s most celebrated teams, has announced that they will be hosting their upcoming continental match against Zambian giants, Zesco United Football Club at Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa. This decision was confirmed by Dynamos’ executive chairman, Moses Maunganidze, yesterday.
“Orlando Stadium will be advantageous to us as Dynamos,” Maunganidze stated confidently. “We know there are a lot of Zimbabweans who love to watch Dynamos in action and are based in South Africa. We have communicated with our parent body, ZIFA, who are now doing the logistics. Given that we will be hosting ZESCO on a weekend, we hope to see thousands of Zimbabweans based in South Africa making their way to watch us play,” he added.
The choice of Orlando Stadium is a strategic move aimed at capitalizing on the strong support base Dynamos enjoys among the Zimbabwean diaspora in South Africa. This large contingent of passionate fans is expected to create a vibrant and supportive atmosphere, providing the team with a significant home advantage.
Maunganidze also revealed that Dynamos had considered other venues, including the National Heroes Stadium in Zambia. However, the draw against Zesco United necessitated a different approach. “If we had not been lined-up against a Zambian team, we could have settled for the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka since the Zambian capital is geographically closer to Harare than any other capital in the SADC region,” he explained.
The decision to play at Orlando Stadium is seen as a bold and exciting move. It highlights Dynamos’ commitment to leveraging their extensive fan base and creating the best possible environment for their players to succeed.
This move not only reflects the club’s strategic planning but also underscores their ambition to make a significant impact in the continental competition. With the strong backing of their fans, Dynamos is poised to create a formidable atmosphere at Orlando Stadium, setting the stage for an electrifying showdown against Zesco United.
