Copper Queens to Compete Against Zimbabwe in COSAFA Semifinals
The Zambia Women’s National Team, known as the Copper Queens, is set to face Zimbabwe in the first semi-final of the 2023 Hollywoodbets COSAFA Women’s Championship. This follows Zimbabwe’s 1-1 draw with Botswana in their group C match, allowing them to finish at the top of their pool with seven points.
Zimbabwe took an early lead just four minutes into the match after winning a corner-kick. Priviledge Mupeti delivered the corner, and Ennety Chemhere headed it home to give her side the lead. However, the Mares from Botswana managed to level the score five minutes before the end of the game, with Balothanyi Johannes scoring her second goal of the tournament.
The highly-anticipated semi-final fixture between Zambia and Zimbabwe will take place at 12:00 local time on Friday, October 13, 2023, at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. This match will be followed by the second semi-final, which features Malawi and Mozambique.
Zambia secured their spot in the semi-finals after topping group B with seven points, while Zimbabwe was the winner of group C with an equal number of points. Malawi claimed the top spot in group A, and Mozambique had the best placement after three rounds of matches played.
