Clifford Mulenga Heads to Egypt for CAF Commentary Role in Pyramids vs Sundowns Clash
Zambia’s former winger to co-commentate Sunday’s CAF Champions League blockbuster. Former Chipolopolo star Clifford Mulenga has landed in Egypt for official CAF duties, where he will provide co-commentary for Sunday night’s CAF Champions League quarterfinal second leg between Pyramids FC and Mamelodi Sundowns.
Mulenga, 38, flew to Cairo on Friday and wasted no time engaging with the action. On Saturday, he attended Sundowns’ final training session ahead of their crucial tie and caught up with his former national teammate, Kennedy Mweene, who now serves as Sundowns’ goalkeepers coach.
A fan-favourite on the mic during recent CHAN and AFCON tournaments, Mulenga has been praised for his analytical depth and engaging commentary style, bringing the same sharpness he once displayed on the pitch.
A decorated football journey
Clifford Mulenga’s career is as colourful as his commentary. The 2007 CAF Young Player of the Year featured in four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments (2006, 2008, 2010, and 2012) and had successful club stints in South Africa with Bloemfontein Celtic, Supersport United, and several other PSL sides.
His latest role marks a continued transition from player to pundit, offering insight drawn from years at the top level of African football.
