Malawi striker Christopher Kumwembe will continue his stay in Zambia after Green Buffaloes and Mighty Wanderers finally reached an agreement to extend his loan deal.
The forward, who has been with Buffaloes since last season, briefly returned to Malawi when his initial loan expired. However, before a fee was agreed upon, Kumwembe returned to Zambia in July, sparking tension between the two clubs.
Loan Fee Dispute Settled
Wanderers were unhappy that Kumwembe travelled back to Zambia without a finalised agreement and demanded he return home. Initially, the Malawian giants placed a hefty price tag of USD 35,000 for the extension—an amount Buffaloes could not afford.
After prolonged negotiations, the two clubs settled on USD 15,000, clearing the way for Kumwembe’s registration and allowing him to feature for Buffaloes in the Zambian top-flight this season.
Kumwembe Grateful for Another Season
While Wanderers’ CEO Panganeni Ndovi could not be reached for confirmation, Kumwembe expressed his joy at remaining in Zambia.
“I thank Allah for fulfilling my wish and I just pray to Allah to bless us to achieve what we prayed for,” said the striker.
Buffaloes Strengthen Attack
The loan extension comes as a boost for Green Buffaloes, who have been working to strengthen their attacking options for the MTN Super League campaign. Kumwembe’s physical presence and goal-scoring ability make him a valuable asset as Buffaloes aim to compete strongly this season.
