Chris Mugalu Joins CAPS United After Forest Rangers Exit
Veteran Congolese striker returns to Zimbabwean Premier League under Ian Bakala. Zimbabwean Premier Soccer League side CAPS United have completed the signing of Chris Mutshimba Mugalu, the experienced Congolese striker who won the Zambian Super League Golden Boot in 2017.
Mugalu, now 34 years old, was most recently on the books of Forest Rangers, where he spent the 2024/25 season. However, following Forest’s relegation from the MTN Super League, the veteran forward has opted for a fresh challenge across the border.
Mugalu Adds Experience to Bakala’s Ambitious Project
CAPS United, one of Zimbabwe’s most historic football institutions, are currently coached by former Zambia international Ian Bakala, who is looking to rebuild the club into a title contender.
Speaking after the announcement, club sources revealed Mugalu’s experience and proven goal-scoring instinct were key factors in securing the deal.
Mugalu previously starred for Lusaka Dynamos and earned a move to Tanzanian giants Simba SC, although that stint did not yield much success.
His most prolific spell came in 2017 when he bagged 22 goals to finish as Zambia’s top scorer—a season that still defines his legacy in Zambian football.
More Zambian Influence Expected at CAPS United
With Bakala at the helm, CAPS United are reportedly eyeing more Zambian signings, with sources confirming that Chitoshi Chinga, a promising Zambian defender, is expected to join the Harare-based outfit soon.
Mugalu’s signing could signal the start of a mini Zambian revolution at CAPS, as Bakala looks to blend regional experience with domestic talent to restore the club’s glory days.
A New Chapter in Mugalu’s Career
At 34, Chris Mugalu may be in the twilight of his career, but he remains a player capable of influencing matches with his hold-up play, aerial strength, and eye for goal.
His arrival in Zimbabwe marks a new chapter and possibly a chance to leave a final imprint in Southern African football. For CAPS United, it’s a low-risk move that brings leadership, pedigree, and hunger to their attack.
