Barbra Banda, Pride Make NWSL History
Orlando Pride have etched their name into the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) history books by winning the NWSL Shield for the first time. This remarkable achievement came during Zambian forward Barbra Banda’s debut season with the club.
The NWSL Shield is awarded to the team with the best overall record at the end of the regular season, and Orlando Pride secured the title with an impressive 57 points, with three games still to play. Banda has been a crucial part of their success, contributing 13 goals and 6 assists in just 19 matches. The Pride’s unbeaten streak extends to 23 matches, boasting 17 wins and 6 draws.
While Barbra Banda has been the headline star, Copper Queens midfielder Grace Chanda has also been recognized by the club. Chanda, who signed with Pride in May 2024, has yet to make her debut due to injury but remains an integral part of the squad.
With the regular season nearing its conclusion, Orlando Pride will now turn their attention to the playoffs. They will be one of the eight teams vying for the NWSL Championship, looking to add another piece of silverware to their historic season.
Banda, alongside her teammates, will be hoping to build on this triumph and cap off an unforgettable season with further success in the postseason.
