Atletico Lusaka: Dominant at Home, Struggling on the Road
Atletico Lusaka Football Club, fondly referred to as the “Bad Boys,” has had a mixed start to their debut season in the Zambian Premier League. While their home form has been impressive, their performances away from Lusaka paint a different picture.
Atletico Lusaka has proven to be a formidable force on home soil. As of Week 12, the team has not lost a single match at home, showcasing their resilience and tactical prowess in familiar territory. This consistency has been a key factor in their ability to stay competitive in the league.
However, Atletico’s record on the road tells a contrasting story. The team has yet to secure a victory outside Lusaka, with all their losses coming from away fixtures. Their season opener set the tone, as they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Forest Rangers in Ndola. Their most crushing defeat came in Kitwe, where former champions Power Dynamos handed them a humbling 5-0 thrashing.
Despite these setbacks, Atletico has managed to collect crucial points on the road, including a hard-fought draw at Edwin Imboela Stadium and a vital win at Sunset Stadium against another Lusaka-based team.
As of Week 12, Atletico Lusaka sits in 12th place on the league table with 14 points. While their home form has kept them afloat, the team’s struggles on the road have highlighted the need for improvement if they are to climb higher in the standings.
For a club newly promoted to the Premier League, Atletico Lusaka’s journey has been a learning experience. The team has shown they can hold their own in Lusaka, but they must find a way to replicate that form in hostile environments.
The “Bad Boys” have a solid foundation to build on, especially with their strong home performances. The challenge now lies in breaking their away-day curse and proving they can compete anywhere in the league. With determination and adjustments in their strategy, Atletico Lusaka has the potential to turn their season around and establish themselves as a force in Zambian football.
For now, the team and its fans will hope that Week 12 marks the turning point in their campaign, as they look to balance their performances both at home and away.
The next fixture is away to Lumwana 28/11/2024.
